When I was a kid I made extra money by mowing the lawn and washing my dad’s car. Occasionally I would do something extra like waxing the car or some other chores around the house to make extra money. I also got a weekly allowance.

These days it’s really a lot easier to make extra money online than ever before, even for teenagers. Most of the time kids and teens these days know far more about computers than some adults, so you can hire yourself out to help people with their computers. Either cleaning the registry, formatting the hard drive, cleaning up the hard drive, etc. Or if you are very good with Photoshop you can make headers for people who build websites. A lot of people want to start a blog but would like a nice custom header but have no clue how to do it. It’s really easy, and you can charge 5 or 10 bucks a header for 20 minutes’ work.

Speaking of building sites, that’s another way you can make money. Find a group of people who are not very tech savvy and who need a website. Who would that be? People who make arts and crafts would fall into that category for the most part. A lot of that group would like a website to display their work but they wouldn’t know how to begin to make one. The secret is they are easy to build, and you can make some extra money that way.

Another way teenagers can make money is to write articles for directories such as Associated Content that will pay you for each article. I tested it out and I received $5.17 for a short article on coffee that I wrote. It was something I already knew about so no research was required. Pretty good for a few minutes of work.

You can also list your skills on one of the forums and hire yourself out as a website builder or article writer. There are many many people who need articles written and they hate to write so they always hire others to write them. You might offer a couple of freebies just to show people you know how to write, and then charge a fee after that of around $5.00 or so an article.

So, how can a teenager make money online? There are, as you can see, lots of ways, and I’ve only talked about just a very few legitimate ways for teens (or anyone) to make extra money online. Yes it requires a little work and effort on your part but everything that’s worth anything always does.
